Estaba asustado. No entendía lo que acababa de suceder. Mis papás lloraron y miraron con preocupación a mis hermanas mientras veían la televisión. Les pidieron perdón y les reiteraron que debían ser fuertes. El mundo estaba por cambiar. Ellos decían que el odio se había esparcido en la ciudad, que habíamos olvidado lo que significaba ser libres. Aunque antes de dormir nos dijeron algo más: “La esperanza es lo que nos salvará”.

I was scared. I didn’t understand what had just happened. My parents cried and looked at my sisters worried as they were watching TV. They asked for forgiveness and told them to be strong. The world was about to change. They said that hate had spread throughout the community, and that we had forgotten what it meant to be free. But before we went to sleep, they told us something else: “You will have to save the world.”
